Myoko/Akakura Onsen
The Myoko/Akakura ski and hot spring resort area in Niigata, is one of the oldest ski resorts in Japan and is noted for its long ski runs, and deep snow. With the backdrop of the majestic 2,434 meter Mount Myoko the views are stunning all year round. There are several quality ski fields on the slopes of Myoko-san and a handful of others nearby. Akakura Onsen is a quaint little hot spring village at the base of the slopes. Approximately 4 hours from Tokyo by car or 3 to 3.5 hours by train, Myoko is one of the more accessible resorts in Japan. There are also some great hiking and golf courses in the area.
